After months, even years of trying to snag a Squash Blossom supplier,

our good suppliers at the Southeast Minnesota Food Network filled the bill. One of my favorite summer dishes: light, sustaining, with the most delicious taste remaining for hours on the palate....lemon, bulgar, dill...

So, saw "Julie & Julia" (Meryl Streep and Amy Adams) last night.Way to go, Sara Solie and Kim Hanson (Minnesota Monthly), Sue Zelickson (WCCO radio, columnist and Founder of Women Who Really Cook), Tim Russel and so many more. Even though we sat in the second row and my neck is stiff even now as I'm writing, it was wonderful, warming and very funny on account of Streep's immaculate portrayal of Child's open, gracious and uncontrived bearing. A lovely twining of two very distinct but parallel lives. See it! I will, again. Thanks again to Maggianos Little Italy who hosted the pre-show apps meet and greet also treated us all to dessert after the movie! Donations were collected for Sue Zs closest-to-her heart charitable efforts, an amount equal to 24 scholarships for children in need was collected.

It was good to see Bret Olson of Renewing the Countryside today, eating with his beautiful children, Olivia and Axel (love those names!). Bret is responsible for getting us a couple pages in the cookbook his company produced. (We have sold over 5 cases through the restaurant) He and his wife, Jan Ioannides founded this company some years ago. Check it out. This is what I found when I Googled it:
Aims to strengthen rural areas by highlighting the initiatives and projects of rural communities, farmers, artists, entrepreneurs, educators, and activists.
